The OWASP Scotland September meeting is now set for Thursday 15th September.  We've got a new location for this meeting, courtesy of Edinburgh University and we've also got a couple of, hopefully, interesting talks.

Location

--

School of Informatics
The University of Edinburgh

Edinburgh
EH8 9LE

Timings

--

doors open at 6pm talks scheduled to start at 7pm (to give anyone coming across from Glasgow time to get in)

Talks

--

Our first talk comes from A.A Mujumdar from Cambridge University

Signal Spoofing - Discussion of a low-cost and open source platform for simulating Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). The developed platform has been used to spoof GPS signals and deceive a GPS receiver. The research serves as a practical demonstration of the lack of security in GPS. The major aim of this research is to prevent the usage of GPS in security mechanisms such as banking, road tax, speed limit enforcement, etc. The talk will consist of a brief overview of GPS, GPS spoofing techniques, current research in this field and finally methods of making GPS and other GNSS systems more secure.

--

Second talk is a preview of one I'm doing for the SecuriTay conference and is designed to tie in with the fact that this is the OWASPs 10th anniversary

Title - 10 years of application security - shouldn't this be fixed by now?

"It's been 10 years since OWASP started it's mission to improve the
state of application security and in that time we've seen huge changes
in what IT and specifically web applications are used for, and attacks
are more prevalent than ever.  This talk will look at some of the
surprises in what's changed and what hasn't over the last decade in
security in general and web app sec specifically"
